According to a written statement from prosecutors in the nearby city of Brindisi, who are looking into claims that a "young foreign woman" was forced to engage in "non-consensual" sexual relations over the course of two days, the news agency LaPresse and several other Italian media outlets carried the statement.

Although he was unable to discuss the evidence due to Italian law, Haggis's lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, stated that he was certain that the charges against his client will be dropped. He is completely innocent and ready to collaborate fully with the police so that the truth can be discovered fast.

The woman was "forced to seek medical attention" after the sexual contact, according to prosecutors Antonio Negro and Livia Orlando, who are leading the inquiry.
